Hosted under the auspices of the Indian Parliament and the G20 Presidency, this grand event bears significance as a gathering of the world’s key parliamentary leaders.

Heralding the summit, PM Modi aptly described it as the “mahakumbh” or grand confluence of the world’s parliamentary traditions. He said, “The P20 is a reflection of the world’s greatest democratic practices, and I’m honored to welcome every delegate on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians.”

With India renowned as the cradle of democracy and being the largest democratic nation globally, the summit stands as a testament to the country’s commitment to fostering dialogues and collaborations. Modi reiterated the vital role parliaments play in driving debates and discussions, as he celebrated India’s achievements, notably the lunar landing and the successful hosting of the G20 summit.

Highlighting the essence of unity, Modi said, “In these turbulent times, confrontation is not the solution. We must foster peace, camaraderie, and march forward hand in hand. A fractured world is incapable of overcoming challenges. Now is the moment for collective progress and universal welfare.”

The summit, graced by Speakers of Parliaments from G20 nations and other invited countries, is themed ‘Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future.’ This theme resounds with the essence of universal brotherhood and collaborative progress.

Delegates from countries spanning from Indonesia, Brazil, to Japan and South Africa marked their presence. However, the Canadian representative’s absence was noted.
