Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Surprise Residents; Snowfall in the Mountains Alters Climate

Delhi-NCR Weather residents were in for a surprise on Monday night as heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms swept across various regions. Strong winds added to the spectacle, creating an atmosphere of awe and wonder. Simultaneously, snowfall graced the mountains from Shimla to Shopian, bringing a significant change in weather conditions.

The weather in Delhi-NCR took an unexpected turn on Monday as heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed the region. Late-night showers drenched many areas, while light rain graced others, including Noida, where residents also experienced the cool embrace of the weather.

The sudden rain brought a drop in temperature, providing relief from the earlier heatwave. This decline in temperature was attributed to the concurrent snowfall in the mountainous regions, which had a cascading effect on the weather in the plains.

The rain brought about a pleasant transformation in some parts of the national capital, causing temperatures to dip by approximately three degrees to 30.5 degrees Celsius. PTI reports indicate that heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms was experienced in multiple areas of Delhi-NCR, including Noida, Indirapuram, South Delhi, and East Delhi, during the late hours of Monday night.

Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Skymet Weather, noted, “Heavy thunderstorms and rain clouds are currently over Delhi and NCR, with heavy rain and hailstorms expected to move from west to east.”

In a subsequent post, Palawat added, “Due to light rain and cold winds, the maximum temperature in Delhi has plummeted by 5 degrees in the last 24 hours, from 36.5 to 30.5 degrees Celsius. Further drops in temperature are anticipated.”

The unpredictable weather conditions serve as a reminder of the ever-changing nature of the Indian subcontinent’s climate, where the transition from sweltering heat to refreshing rain and cool mountain snowfall can happen overnight.
